Caves

The Caves are 3 caves, or better: grottos, which reach under water under the road. This most southern dive spot of Dahab is a special experience. With stronger waves one should renounce the dive because it is almost impossible to get out with a strong surf.

In the small bay directly below the reef edge a sandy slope begins at 3m depth.

Through the surf at the top of the reef always sand is rinsing down the sandy slope that undergoes a constant change. With increasing depth the sandy slope runs out at about 70m.

A first dive could be to follow the sandy slope down to a depth af 30-40m and visit the grottos on the way back (don’t forget the lamps). In the depths are fields of Red Sea garden eels.

The dive follows an imaginary circle from right to left with orientation along the decidous sandy slope. The Caves themselves are grottos below the top of the reef which begin at 2m and reach about 15m under the top of the reef. The bottom of the Caves is the sandy slope with a max. depth of 15m at this place. There is a northern and a southern grotto. The bubbles at their clefted ceiling look like pearls.

Not everybody likes to dive into the grottos, but with a guide it is not even for beginners a problem to dive them. It is always possible to see the daylight.

Dare to have a panorama view out from the grotto into the deep blue of the reef. Maybe you will have luck and see the turtle which can almost be seen at every dive at the Caves.
