Southern Oasis

The Southern Oasis is situated about 7 km south of Dahabs center. Some palm trees stand immediately at the water and a signboard with the inscription “Diving Area” prods diving.

We of the DiveIN often use this shady place to have a rest between the dives.

At the Southern Oasis an incision can be found in the approx. 15m wide top of the reef.

The laguna in front of the reef is not deeper than 1-2m. A little rock is situated in the middle of the incision. On the sandy ground often crocodile fishes are lurking. The wall drops down to a depth of 5m along the whole dive spot.

Afterwards one comes to a steep sandy slope which drops down into great depths. Altogether this dive spot is ideally suitable for a afternoon dive in smaller depth.

In the extension of the incision a big coral block is situated on the sandy slope in a depth of 15m. It is covered by richly colored leather corals. Many swarms of young fishes live in the shelert of the sand area. You find as well many anemone clown fishes at the Southern Oasis.

In northern and southern direction are fields of smaller coral blocks. They are regularly cut by 15 to 20m wide sand stripes which reach until the reef wall. In the northern coral garden soft corals are predominating. Even a small Napoleon can sometimes be met here. If one dives southwards from the entry this part of the underwarter-landscape is minted by stone corals. The big number of bannerfishes swimming inbetween the coral blocks is conspicuous.

The mostly visites the dive spot „Southern Oasis“ by jeep while a one-day trip in combination with the dive spot “Caves” or “Triple Pools”. At lunch time the Bedouins prepare a meal on the open fire and we have lunch in the shadow of the palm trees.

Yet seen: turtles, lots of swarm fish (bannerfish) barracudas, murays, stone fish, napoleon, anemonefish, crocodile-fish and multiple times eagle rays.
