Bells Mostly we dive this divespot in combination with the
Blue Hole because they lay side by side. Before the descent one has to walk fully equipped
about 100m northwards along a stony path. During low tide and and calm sea it
is possible to get to the entry over the reef top. The entry is a ca. 10m long and 2m wide crack within the reef. |
|
Descend one
after another, head-first as the Bells are really narrow. Besides: the
dive site’s name has its origin in the „ding dong“ caused by the
divers cylinders which hit the narrowtube-like fissure while entering
and descending. By descending into the tower you almost feel
the deep quiet of a cathedral, wrapped up in the deep blue of the drop
off which dramatically shoots downinto the abyss.
Gliding
down the tower the first point to emerge is a saddle at about 5m, the
second point at about 15m. In the depth of 30m the arch is situated, 5m
deeper the tower’s threshold. The last little overhang with sand on
its top is at 49m. Beyond these areas the wall drops off into a depth of
several hundred meters. |

After leaving the chimney the divers are able to enjoy an approx. 300m
relaxing drive along the wall drifting south towards the Blue Hole.
While this wall dive everything that shelters in the Gulf of Aqueba can
cross your way. Often you meet with a big turtle, napoleon fishes or
groupers.
Never forget to look into the
deep blue: big schools of tuna which hectically circle around, even an
eagle ray, dolphins and reef sharks had been seen here. |
|
In the upper part the wall
is almost overgrown by soft corals. Arriving at the blue hole one should ascend
to approx. 5m. When it starts getting hard to make out the other divers
because of the lots of fairy basslets you got to the entry of the Blue
Hole. After crossing the saddle in a depth of 3-5m
you decend into the Blue Hole. In any case you should stay at this “exit-depth”. The Blue Hole provides in its upper part, which is flooded with light, an excellent scenario to the emerging diver – nothing but the divers look should descend after this dive into the deep blue of the Blue Hole. |
