Blue Hole

The Blue Hole is one of the most famous dive sites of the Red Sea. Situated in the north of Dahab, the drive to this dive site is quite adventurous and only possible by jeep. The drive through the arch in the rock is breathtaking and a real bespoke work for the drivers.

The origin of the approx. 60 times 80m wide and more than 100m deep hole is a mystery till this day.

In the meantime there are several little restaurants at the Blue Hole. Here you can order e.g. delicious pizza and „Sachleb“ a delicious coco-drink.

Directly beside the Blue Hole the dive spot  "Bells" can be found. We mostly dive it in combination with the Blue Hole.

The walls of the Blue Hole almost vertically drop down to a depth of approx. 108m. At the sea side the reef flat lowers itself in form of a saddle to 5-7m.

The Blue Hole’s cone is not closed – it opens form of a window in a depth of approx. 60m towards the open sea. This tunnel to the deep blue, named cathedral, has a diameter of ca. 30m and a lenght of approx. 20m.

As this dive is known to be far beyond the borders of recreational diving, we of the DiveIN mostly dive the outer reef of the Blue Hole. We start at the Bells and do a drift dive with a maximal depth of 30m.

The best entry and exit can be found right beside the restaurants. It is not important whether you dive left or right hand to the “saddle”. But it is vital NOT to go deeper than the depth limit of 30-40m.

The walls of the Blue Hole are rather bald. This dramatically changes in the near of the saddle. It is overgrowed with soft corals of every kind and there an incredible number of fairy basslets is swimming around.

But it is not only the fauna of the Blue Hole that impresses the divers – it is the DEEP BLUE of the HOLE.
