Ras Mohammad

Ras Mohammad, the most southern point of the Sinai-Peninsula is often dealed as one of the world’s most beautiful dive spots. In 1983 the area around "RasMo" had been declared as national park in order to preserve the many-sided fauna and flora of the desert and the sea. The diver will find a real underwater paradise: breath-taking coral gardens, phantasmagoric drop-offs and an unbelievable biodiversity, especially of tropical fish.

Due to its extraordinary location between the Gulf of Aquaba and the Gulf of Suez its an extraordinary and, besides, the only protected dive area in the whole Red Sea.

Mostly there are strong currents which carry plankton and other nutriment particles in great quantities. Due to this hard and soft corals batten very well and big schools of reef and big fish are drawn to this place.

This big food offer draws again lots of different predatory fishes like mackerels, barracudas, tuna and sharks. Divers can have particulary interesting and exiting dive experiences here. Thereby is “RasMo” not only one dive spot – it is a whole dive area with lots of fantastic dive spaces which, actually, should be dived on several days.

We from the DiveIN Team usually call at Ras Mohammad in the context of a dive safari or a day-trip with a dive boat.

Usually Sharm el Sheik is the sarting point for our boat safaris. The outer reefs of RasMo can only by boat be reached conveniently and effectively.

The classical dive spots at Ras Mohammad start at the southern point of Marsa Bareika, known as Ras Zaatar and run with Jackfish Alley, Eel Garden and Shark Observatory along the eastern coast (as well known as Ras Mohammed Wall).

At the southern end of the Peninsula Anemone City, Shark Reef and Yolanda Reef are situated.
A
s already mentioned, the Egypt government founded the Ras Mohammad National Park in 1983.
T
he aim was and is to preserve this complex and absolutely unique ecosystem which counts more than 1000 kind of fish and 150 different corals. In 1989 the park had even been enlarged.

At Shark Observatory
you find for example tower-like walls which reach down into the abyss and are covered with enchanting soft corals.

Between the gorges often turtles are elegantly gliding though the water while at the outer reef side sharks, eagle rays, sting rays, manta rays or other pelagric big fish are patrolling.

At another dive spot of RasMo, the Shark- and Jolanda Reef we find a wall and two ergs which trop off into the deep blue.

The strong current pander the growth of beautiful soft corals. Due to the many fish swarms lots of big fishes are drawn here.

Additionally it is possible explore at this dive spot the remains of the Jolanda (loo) wreck. For more information on the Jolanda please see  [wreck description].
