Our house reef - The Dahab Islands

[ back ]

Directly in front of the the hotel and the dive store are for example the "Isands", one of the most beautiful snorkel and dive sites in and around Dahab.

The Islands got their name from the half moon shaped reef which sticks up the water at low tide.

By the way: At the aerial photograph (left) the DiveIN is to be seen. It is the first hotel plant at the lower right edge.

The entry/exit point of the reef (the reef edge) is accesible by a narrow approx. 100 m long sand strip on the reef plate, which increasingly tapers towards the sea which has to be walked through. At the aerial photograph above, this sand strip is easily recognizable at the upper right side (on height of the anchoring ship).

The innumerable coral towers form numerous canyons at the northern and souther edge of this dive site.

The reef edge drops at the entrance 7m off. The exit is marked by old motor-car tires here. The inside of the half moon is turned towards the reef’s edge and “bricked up” with coral block. In backlit they carry one back to the battlements and towers of fairy tale landscape.(for further information please compare our descriptions of dive sites).
